Simon Gilks
Simon began his violin studies at the age of three and quickly progressed through the Suzuki discipline of violin playing. At the age of eighteen he was awarded a place at the Royal Northern College of Music studying under Prof. Maciej Rakowski on the Bachelor of Music degree programme. During his time at the RNCM Simon was a frequent leader of the college’s Symphony, Opera, Chamber and Repertoire Orchestras. He graduated in July 2005 with a First Class Honours Degree.
Simon has given many public solo performances in the UK and abroad. Perhaps the most significant to note are the various concertos he has performed with orchestra. These include Mozart, Bruch, Saint-Saëns, Dvorak and Mendelssohn.
Simon is currently employed by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, however he regularly freelances with various other UK and Ireland based Orchestras. He has been a violin teacher at Cheadle Hulme School for 7 years.
